I noted in a footnote to my paper on magnetism (See, “A Unified Model of the Gravitational, Electrostatic, and Magnetic Forces“) that it’s strange that charge disperses along the path of least resistance, but I actually don’t think it’s strange at all anymore. The way charges work when you look closely is that they disperse in huge numbers, so if there is a least resistant / most efficient path, then most of those charges should take that path, not because of information ex ante, but just because it’s the path that allows the most charges to travel the furthest towards the opposite pole they’re all grasping towards.
